Today Jessica Vill uploaded a video about old Christmas traditions, ones that we don’t do anymore.
It made me think about an episode of I Love Lucy that my sister and I watch every year, where Lucy and Ricky bring in the Christmas tree all decorated on Christmas Eve, and in the morning they tell Ricky Jr. that Santa brought it.
Then it made me think about my own Christmas traditions. Ones from when I lived at home, ones from Evan’s family, and ones that Evan and I have made over the last few years. Every year we go and see a local Christmas play with Evan’s family. I’ve done it with them for the last couple of years and it’s made me feel so special being able to share that with them.
Christmas baking is also a big tradition each year. We always put together a gingerbread house, and never eat it. I’ve done it with my sisters for years, and my first Christmas with Evan, his mom displayed it for all of December.
We also dry out sliced oranges in the oven and hang them on the tree.
The picture to the right is of Deely Bob’s. It’s a recipe my aunt got from a friends and I’ve been making them for the last few years. They’re marshmallows dipped in toffee and covered in Rice Krispees. Then you freeze them and they get really gooey and delicious. I’ll leave the link below for anyone who is interested.
My sisters are a HUGE part of Christmas every year. Ivy and I have been watching the I Love Lucy Christmas special for the last 6 or so years, and it’s our favourite.
With Evan, we try really hard to keep Christmas morning for just the two of us. I know it seems kind of selfish, but before we have kids we want to spend a few Christmases just us. Christmas Eve we usually go to church and then come home and watch Christmas Vacation and drink hot chocolate.
What are your Christmas traditions?
